5 Popular Travel-Inspired Cocktails To Make At Home

  • Phulay Sunset (Thailand)

This orange cocktail takes all the flavors you’d want while watching the sunset. Old ginger is important to balance the fruitiness of  pineapple, orange and coconut. Young ginger looks fresh while Old ginger has a rough and dirtier-looking skin.

Ingredients: 3 ounces vodka, 2 ounces orange juice, 2 ounces coconut cream, Old ginger, 4 grams fresh orange, 2 grams fresh pineapple, 1 ounce lime juice, 1 ounce simple syrup

Preparation: Muddle ginger, pineapples and orange puree. Mix together orange juice, vodka, fruit puree, lime juice, coconut cream, and simple syrup. Mix with old ginger then strain into a glass.

  • Mojito (Havana, Cuba)

The Mojito is a classic highball cocktail served in many bars you visit. This cocktail originated from Cuba and is famous because of the blend of citrus, sweet and mint flavors that complements the rum. 

Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz White Rum, 6 Leaves of Mint, Soda Water, 1 oz Fresh lime juice, 2 Teaspoons Sugar

Preparation: Muddle the sugar, lime juice and mint leaves together in a small jug. Make sure to crush the mint. Use a rolling pin for this if you don’t have a cocktail making set. Pour into a tall highball glass then add ice then pour over rum. Top with soda water and use extra mint leaves to garnish. 

  • Bloody Mary (England)

Bloody Mary originated in England. It’s well known as a great hangover cure. This is a famous drink worldwide after a night out! The Bloody Mary is made up of tomato juice, vodka, flavorings including Worcestershire sauce and other hot sauces. 

Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz(3 parts)Vodka, 3 oz(6 parts) Tomato juice, 1/2 oz(1 part) Lemon juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire Sauce, Salt and pepper, Celery

Preparation: Use a highball glass. Add a dash of Tabasco, Worcestershire Sauce, pepper and salt. Add in the lemon, vodka and tomato juice. Stir gently with ice. Add a lemon wedge, celery stalk and even chili to garnish.

  • Margarita (Mexico)

The classic margarita originated in 1938 at Rancho La Gloria restaurant in Mexico. This cocktail was thought to have been invented by Carlos Herrera when a customer who was allergic to many spirits except tequila came to his restaurant and he mixed this cocktail up for her.  Today the margarita is a popular choice in America.

Ingredients: 1 oz Lime Juice, 2 oz Tequila, Salt to garnish the glass, 1 oz Cointreau

Preparation: Use a cocktail glass then rub the rim with a slice of lime. Pour a bit of salt into a plate then turn the glass over into the salt. Shake the lime juice, Cointreau and tequila together with ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour the content into the glass carefully by avoiding the salt on the rim. Garnish with lime. 

  • Cosmopolitan (New York City)

Cosmopolitan is a famous drink in New York City. The series Sex and The City made this very New York drink even more desirable. This cocktail is a blend of cranberry juice, vodka, and fresh lime juice served in a martini glass. 

Ingredients: 1 oz Cranberry juice, 1 1/2 oz Vodka Citron, 1/2 oz Cointreau, 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice

Preparation: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add all the ingredients. Shake well. Use a strainer to pour into a large glass, pour the mixture back into the cocktail shaker then strain for the second time. Add lime as a garnish on the glass.
